While you have a point being able to install your own HDD, but, why for a
gaming console. I don't think you'd download that much to fill it up, even
in downloadable (which is painfully slow on the Sony Network) gaming
content. Most content would be old before you'd fill it up and be deleted
(i'vre already done that with my 20gig on my 360 because I no longer have
the games). Problem is, One can get an Elite with a 120gig HDD still $150
less than the PS3 80gig version. You then spend another $80 (for a cheapy
made) HDD, then void the warranty opening up the case to install your HDD,
and even possibly doing damage in the process to the console. The money
doesn't add up to savings and losing the warranty is foolishness.

Swapping out the HDD in the PS3 doesn't void its warranty - the directions
are in the user's manual. If Sony tries to pull some stupid stuff about
this not being supported, they're going to be in for a world of hurt when
they get what's left of their pants sued off in court.

If it's in the manual - it's supported, and doesn't void the warranty.

As for large HDDs, both Sony and Microsoft are hoping you'll want to but
many, many movies and TV shows in HD.

You have the warranty? I only ask, because you have a history of embellishing claims you make in these forums, and when pointed out to you, you don't reply. Now if you own a PS3, you may have a point, but whether the manual says how to do it, does it say it "won't void" the warranty, if it does, then that is great for PS3 owners, but I seriously doubt it. Hey, my PC from Dell has instructions on how to replace a HDD if it goes bad under warranty, but it voids it if I do this without using a Dell replacement device. If they send me one, then it is good to go, not if I buy one myself.

It's would be bad business to let anyone mod their devices as they see fit, and then fix it if something goes wrong in the process, and Sony isn't making money from the sale of the device. You wouldn't enter the doors of a small claims court without being laughed at if you tried press for coverage.
