their original console almost before the 360 hit the store shelves. 4 years
only counts for early adopters that purchased a XBox day one.
It's generally accepted that console generations last around 5 years.
Generation 6 began (in the U.S.) on 9/9/1999 when the Dreamcast
launched. Generation 7 began on 11/21/2005 when the Xbox 360 launched.
The original Xbox may have suffered by being the 3rd machine to launch
in Gen6 while the 360 was the first in Gen7, but lasting for 4 years
out of 6 when you were 3rd to market 2 years after the generation
began is not a bad lifespan.
