Try wiping them off with water and a soft cloth.
Seriously, I don't know why it happens but every so often my Oblivion
will stop playing and give me a disc error. The first time it
happened I looked at my disc and it was covered with scratches and I
was like WTF. Keep in mind I keep my system horizontal and never move
it or anything stupid like that.
So I hunted around and found somebody saying that he had the same
problem but they weren't scratches it was some kind of residue. And
the only game it happend on for him was Oblivion. Sure enough I got a
cloth and some water and the "scratces" wiped off. I still have seen
very few references to this problem and certainly nothing from
Micorsoft or Bethesda.
