Has anyone seen the NPD numbers for June yet? I was wondering what the
results are.
360 Outsells PS3 in June, Lags Behind Wii
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/807/807411p1.html
Wii - 381,000
360 - 198,000
PS3 - 98,000
Why was he wondering about June? It would obviously follow the trend.
The question should be July's numbers since that was after the price drop.
I have the hardest time finding these, thanks to all of you guys for posting
these. Anyway, at vgchartz.com, you can view weekly numbers.
I wouldn't trust VGChartz.com as far as I could throw them. Their
numbers are, at best poorly researched,- and at worst, guessed/made
up.
http://www.vgchartz.com/news/news.php?id=442
"n summary, May saw a setback as VGChartz was caught unawares by
changing sales trends, overstating Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS sales by
40% and 20% and understating Playstation Portable sales by 30%. This
month shows a lot of improvement, though the accuracy is still far
from perfect and VGChartz must prove its ability to maintain this
accuracy over time. See the comparison table below, which lists
hardware sales figures for each platform for NPD's US numbers, Canada
numbers, the total, and then the VGChartz NA numbers and the %
difference between the NPD total and VGChartz."
"
Platform NPD US NPD CA NPD Total VGChartz % Diff
DS 561900 45700 607600 518321 -15%
Wii 381800 53000 434800 472973 9%
PSP 230100 18500 248600 267567 8%
PS2 270000 21000 291000 243580 -16%
X360 198400 13500 211900 227275 7%
PS3 98000 6500 104500 89406 -14%
GBA 113870 8800 122670 95398 -22%"
If you head over to Neogaf's monthly predictions thread, the aggregate
of their guesses are better than VGcharts.com.
Now, I am
really unsure how they get to the numbers and what criteria they use, but
according to the numbers, the PS3, on a weekly basis ending July 15th,
outsold the 360 83,765 units to 57,338. Now again, I don't know if that is
reliable as mentioned before. But if the numbers are true, if even
reasonably, then the price drop may have worked, but for how long. MS sure
isn't truly going out of their way to make the end customer happy.
Sony claim double sales - if they are selling 98k in a 5 week
reporting month (for NPD), then that equates to around 19k a week.
Double that is 38k.
So for the PS3 to outsell the 360, the 360 will have had to dip in
sales slightly. Not impossible, given there are no big releases, and
the 360 had some bad news at the start of the month.
However, the sales figures you are quoting just sound made up if you
ask me.
But in that drop, didn't the 60gig version of the PS3 come with a 5 movie
offer and components that weren't part of its original offer (no HDMI
cable, no rumble pack)?
Only at Amazon did it come with 5 free movies.
My prediction is that the PS3 and 360 will be around equal to 10%
difference in favour of the Ps3 for July,.
