Xbox 360 Live/Gamertag question... useable on original Xbox still?

I created my Xbox Live account/gamertag on my new Xbox 360. I also
have an old Xbox that I would like my Live account to work on. The
reason why is because Phantasy Star Online Ep 1 & 2 won't even get to
the title screen without an Xbox Live account on that original Xbox.
It requires one to play even in the offline mode. I've searched
through the bowels of MS's knowledge database about this but cannot
find a mention. Does anyone know if you can do this and what the steps
are? Do I just 'recover' my active account on my original Xbox (which
requres the credit card number, phone number, etc.)? I would not like
to do this if it will mess up my account on my 360... erasing
achievements or saves. Thanks for any help.
