The Car Crash of a launch that will be the PS3s

Sony is headed for a carcrash of a launch. Looks like one, smells like
one. The PS3 has so many problems already, and it hasn't even hit store
shelves yet. 'Pony Gaystation Wee' as I like to call it, has so much to
prove and so little time.
Here is the evidence:
1. Analysts predict the PeeShitWee is going to cost upwards of $500.
Holy Crap! The 3D0 launched at $799, and bombed. While not as high, this
proves that a console cannot simply launch at whatever price the maker
thinks. There has to be a maximum, and $399 seems to be it. See how the
Saturn bombed. The GayStation and the Gaystation Poo launched much
cheaper and were a success as a result. Sega failed miserably. Some
developers beleive it wil cost $700. The proof that the Pretty Shitty
Three will cost more than the market can take is that the Pioneer and
Saumsung Blu-Ray players are costing upwards of $1000!
Holy Crap! The Pretty Shitty Gaystation Wee is far more complex and
expensive than a bog standard media playing box! I expertly predict that
the Pissy*** Thr33 will cost $500 after discount from Pony.
2. Games developers are complaining about the system.
Oh dear. The wonderful Cell processor is holding back development.
Developers are claiming that it is difficult to get to grips with, all
that paralell processing power for floating point, and a huge bottleneck
between it and the GPU. That and limited ram (256 system ram total vs
up to 512mb on the 360). It has no fast framebuffer, which was
practically the saviour of the PS2, and has boosted the 360s GPU
performance way beyond the PShit3's.
Finally, the Cell seems to limit the types of game code that can be run.
Yeah, you can create great fixed angle cinematic sequences that require
no AI, no physics, no dynamic calculating - but what about games? No -
AI requires integers as well as floating point, and while the Pshit3 can
do loads of FP calcs per second, it can't do much else. it's just got
the one general purpose CPU, one that's handling everything else in the
game. Can anyone spell BOTTLENECK???
3. Blu-Ray. It's going to hold back the Pshit3.
It's an expensive gamble, and SOny is bolting out of the gates before
the starters gun was fired. By using the Pshit3 as a trojan horse for
another division in the company, Pony have forgotten that the only
reason DVD boosted the PooShatoo, was that it launched 2-3 years into
the life of the format. DVD was also a unversal format, in that everyone
who had a TV could use it to their advantage. Blu-Ray, and by extension,
HD-DVD do not have this kind of potential. You need to spend thousands
to get in on the act, and HDTV penetration globally is miniscule. Sure,
the market will grow as content expands, but until all content is High
Defenition, there will be many many people who cannot and wont upgrade.
Not only that, but there is a competing brand, which DVD didn't have to
contend with. It was seen as the upgrade to VHS, rather than competitor
to.
So limited market for the format means limited sales, which means
PshitWee will be stuck with a crappy BD-ROM drive that put the price up,
delayed the console, and ultimately dragged it down.
4. No coherent online strategy.
Sure, Sony claims they have more gamers online - but it's a nightmare.
Anyone ever tried inviting a friend to play a game they are not
presently playing? You have to organise it via phone, then all log in.
If you have just bought the game, you need to sign up and register,
possibly pay a sub. Then you can play. All this is negated with XBOX
live, and XBOX 360 shows how Online SHOULD be done.
Sony has no such system, and I very much doubt ever will.
5. Lack of Games.
Predictions are already being made that the system will ahve very few
launch titles. While there are hundreds, if not thousands in
development, the system is slow and complex to develop for. As was the
case with the Pony Pretty*** Poo, it will launch with virtually no must
have games. All the big hitters will follow 12-18 months later.
So with virtualy no compelling reasons beyond a hyped up, bottlenecked
CPU, and an expensive disk drive that has no content to play, the
PShitWee will simply sit on shelves.
6. Silcone yeilds.
yes, we all know that IBM is the culprit in both Microsoft and Apple's
problems with getting high-end systems out. The PowerMac is dead thanks
to IBM failing to get anywhere near as many PowerPC cpus fabbed as they
need to supply demand.
Microsoft suffered as a result of the same issues. The PowerPC does not
do well over 2ghz and the CPUs of the 360 goes to prove that this can
hit you hard.
But Sony have gone further and designed a far more complex system than
simply dual-core/triple core. They have gone for 8 co-processors AND a
3.2 ghz CPU. Can anyone say LOW SILICON YEILD? If you think the problems
Microsoft are having are serious, consider just how problematic the Cell
is going to be to get into mass production???? Oh my god, it's going to
be DISASTEROUS.
So to add to the lack of compelling reasons to own a Pretty*** Three at
launch, when they finally get the must-have games out, there will be no
systems available to play them on, as Sony cant manufacture them!
Predictably, Sony will only launch one territory at a time, so it will
be Q4 2007 before anyone in Europe gets to see it! And only then will
the games start coming through. It wont be until 2008 that the PShit3
will be worth buying.
That's a full 2 years after the XBOX 360 launched, which is just ramping
up production, has unprecedented demand, is not bogged down by expensive
and cumbersome and unecessary Disk formats, has a strategy for online
play, and actually has games worth playing OUT NOW.
Sony will not win this war, they have neither the power or the will to
do so. Going up against Microsoft is like trying to push over the Hoover
Dam with nothing more than broomhandle.
Sony is in major trouble Pending legal action accross the globe with
Rootkits, allegations and subsequent proof of fraud with their movie
reviews (Planting of fake positive reviews of movie-flops), - a
dead-already format war, and a failing electronics division.
What more evidence do you need?
Buy an XBOX 360 now, or put your name down for one - or wait for the
Revolution from Nintendo.
Neither system will disappoint, unlike the Pshit3.
