Re: Sylvania 27" TV, are they any good?

The Sylvania Tv's are not bad. I have the 20 inch flat screen in my kitchen
area...which is good with the flat screen so you can be moving around in
there doing stuff and still see the picture well. Solid tv and nice picture,
especially when you look at bang for the buck. I got mine on sale about two
years ago for $99 at Sears...they had it on sale and then had a deal where
you got like an additional 20% off, or something like that. For what it is
used for it serves it purpose VERY well. Only fault with it is the lack of
inputs, not many there...has one Svideo input and 2 other standard RCA
inputs. I have a cheap ass DVD player hooked up to it as well (using the
Svid and) it looks very good for what it is and all.

I also happen to have a Sylvania 27 inch Tv (not the flat screen), which I
bought to replace a Tv in my bedroom (had a 19 inch and wanted something a
little larger) that died last year about this time. I found it on sale for
$159, believe I picked it up at Circuit City...there or Kmart, one of the
two. Overall a good Tv, but it is very basic. The picture is solid...sound
is okay, nothing that will blow you away or anything. Again as with the
other one it lacks inputs, this one has NO Svideo input and only 2 standard
RCA inputs (you have two video inputs available, this goes for the 20 inch
as well, both have an input on the front but using it you still only have
two inputs..it only takes the place of one of your ones going in on the rear
of the Tv and the 20 inch flat has the Svid advantage.) I found that this
one was described wrong when looking at it, descriptions on websites said it
had more and higher quality inputs (Svid, etc..) and in reality it did not.
So be careful on this and if it is a factor be sure the model you look at
does indeed include those features if you want them. Again, I have a cheap
DVD player hooked up to it, using RCA inputs, and it looks pretty good. I
watch an occasional movie on it, and mainly just watch it while dosing off
or while getting ready in the mornings. It does all I need of it.

The Sylvania's are solid Tv's and I have no complaints with either of them,
they serve thier purposes quite well. In regards to gaming though (or if
this is your main or only Tv) I would probably reccomend looking elsewhere.
I would either keep looking, or save up for a little bit if necessary and
try to go with a set that has HDTV. One, as this is where television is
headed, and secondly those sets are going to allow you to take more
advantage of what your console is capable of putting out (or also a DVD
player if it has progressive)...and like I mentioned television in general
is moving more and more in that direction. I bought this set not too long
ago for my family/living room area (got it a little cheaper than what they
show it for, it was on sale)

It is what I use for gaming and for movies, etc...and the bulk of my Tv
viewing. I likely would just stay with what I have right now if money is an
issue in the decision and work on saving up for something more like this one
in the link above and REALLY move up with something like it...or bigger if
you have the bidget and space to allow for it. For what you are looking to
move up to with the Sylvania you are not going to being doing much more than
just getting a bigger picture, not so much a better one than what you are
currently viewing. Looking ahead and all I would take this route, you likely
will get much more out of it long-term and overall a much better gaming, Tv,
movie experience.

Hope that helps...
