Dunno a great deal about the samsung, but -rw is pretty much univerally recognized between all of them. It's the CD-Rs that set the 3 drives apart. I have a Thompson but could care less about CD-R support. It reads every DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD-R DL that I've thrown at it.
