It's dead. Well usenet is dying. Must be an interesting experience for
you to have read here and when coming back, you just see the rests.
With ISPs now dumping usenet for a variety of reasons, I wonder how long it
will be before other things like IRC will be going away?
Why do you guys really think usenet is dying? I mean what are the
reasons if it is dying? Lastly what are the reasons ISPs are dumping
usenet?
See the links PRoToCoL (< I wrote this, not copied and pasted ;-)
posted. But that is one side. The other is that it already dies by
itself, and might also trigger what the ISPs do now. The users seem to
prefer WWW forums (what is the plural anyway?) that NNTP, as it's easier
to access (by browser) and you don't need to set up any software.
But those are fragile. Usually they have no mirrors. For NNTP (usenet) it
doesn't matter if you take away a few servers, the news will still be
available elsewhere. Also Google has a copy.
It doesn't help, the numbers of postings decrease since about 2003.
At the end of the month I usually post user stats. Search for the one of
last month.
I still have copies of some of the older stats I made years ago. Here an
example from October 2002:

Sinner alone had 264 articles. That's what we have a total in a good
month now.
Heh, 395, W00T!
