Still need some help with mame

Hi, everyone
I tried installing mame on a 2nd computer and it works great. I am
still trying to figure out why it will not work on my laptop? I did
everything the same way as I did on the other computer. The only
difference I am noticing are the roms. I downloaded mk3 rev. 2.1 on
both computers. When i downloaded any roms on my laptop it shows the
roms as efw files. Not zipped files. Does that make any difference? I
am assuming it does. If so why is the laptop downloading them as efw
files and not zip files? Anyway after I put the files in the roms
folder and do an audit new games it still does not put them in the
mame program. If anyone can help me i will be eternally grateful.
