If you like Linspire you could switch to straight Debian and avoid the
fees. also you can use Synaptic. I would also recommend Ubuntu (after
about 10 years of Debian I now use Ubuntu on all my desktops/notebooks,
its awesome and of course debian based)
Linspire gets complaints for trying to be too windows-like for no reason
other than laziness (although I have not used it).
But since Linspire is debian based your at least off to a good start :)
