As for the lump I was referred to at Wally World, I forgot to ask what
kind it was. Is it mesquite?

The lump I get from Wally World is Royal Oak and is made from Oak,
Hickory, Maple and other hardwoods. It actually doesn't make much
if any difference what hardwood it's made from as long as it is hardwood
and actually converted to lump charcoal in a kiln type environment. Oak
lump and mesquite lump perform exactly alike in a BBQ pit.
