The local nursery tells me the average hackberry only lives about
35 years. I'm encouraging the Privets (Japanese Ligustrum) to
take it's place for shading my south side. The shade spread is
not nearly as good, but they live longer.
Neem is a great shade tree.

Even the Arabs have planted them around desert oases. Neem
Siamensis flowers are also good for reducing blood sugar, etc.
Thanks right back at you Nick. I knew about Neem oil but I wasn't
aware of the tree's herbal abilities. Looks like a whole damn
pharmacy in a single plant.
The flowers are sold frozen in Thai/Asian markets under the Thai name:
Sadau. I like them blanced, chopped and eaten with with a Thai hot
sauce like Nam Prik Kee Gaa.
Plumeria (aka Self-heal) is another whole pharmacy in a single plant.
Correct me if I'm wrong, Nick, but "self-heal" is Prunellae vulgaris,
<http://www.holisticonline.com/herbal-med/_Herbs/h343.htm>
which I am giving free range in my yard (drying some as I type).
Plumeria is related to oleander, and is used for making leis.

You are quite right, Mr. Billy. My mistake. Thanks for the correction. ;-)
