I was surprised to find that a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich was
pretty much a Midwest thing. In MO, where I grew up, they were on the
menu of every restaurant, diner and cafe in the state. Heck, you'd be
more likely to find them than a hamburger or hot dog. <grin> This was
also true for when we lived in IN- they were in every bar and pub in
town.
In Elkhart, IN is a tavern/restaurant called Hennie's. It started out as a
tavern for alcoholic railroad employees coming from the nearby Robert
Young Switching Yard. They now have added on a restaurant that serves
great steaks and sandwiches. They have a sandwich which I loved, we called
it the Hennie's Frisbee because the breaded and fried pork tenderloin was
so large around. We loaded it up with everything, lettuce, onions,
pickles, tomato and cheese which made it weigh like 2 pounds it seemed. Ta
die for!!!
