No need for waterproof. BUT, that said, be prepared at all times when
away from home, esp. when driving, to stop immediately and remove and
clean the lens if you should get mascara in your eye. i.e. always have
a case and solution plus a regular pair of glasses handy. It's
happened to me twice and I could barely keep eyes open long enough to
pull off the road. Same goes for an eyelash that might wander in too.
Feels like a log in there. You cat lovers prob. also can attest to the
stop-you-cold effect of a cat hair....

I always wear sunglasses to keep debris out.

Thanks, Val189. I do have a case and my glasses in my bag, but I guess I
should put a small bottle of solution in there as well. That is kind of
scary that it happened to you while driving! I live in central London so I
don't drive at the minute, but I will keep your warning in mind.
