Re: Newbie - with questions of course!

Nathalie,
Regarding perfume on eBay. Personally I 've had good experiences the couple
of times I bought perfume. I bought from individuals and bid as opposed to
the eBay stores. I think the key is to know the product well and what it
should cost, and then ask the seller questions to get a comfortable feeling
about who you are dealing with before bidding.

A lot of people on this ng like StrawberryNet.com for perfume deals:

I have not bought from them cuz they did not have what I wanted in stock
last time, but their prices look good to me. Nothing earth shattering, but
you will save some $ and get legit product I think.

I've read about a lot of bad experience with buying handbags on eBay. A lot
of people seem to suspect knock-offs. For this reason I don't look on eBay
for new hand bags.

Hello,
I've been reading this NG for a few days now. I'm Swiss
(French-speaking part), love shoes (I own almost 100 pairs I
think...), skirts and dresses (I have a "skirt body" - 5ft2, pear
shaped, long bust, short but nice legs, I do war pants for confort,
mostly in winter, but I look my best in dresses and skirts), perfume
and jewelry - the whole works. Oh, except I never wear makeup and
don't color my hair (I happen to really like its color - dark blonde -
and I even like the many white hair that have been appearing for the
last 5 years or so).
Right now I have 2 questions:
1) I have fallen in love with the perfume Dolce Vita (Dior). What
happened is that a week ago in a bus there was suuuuuuch a good smell
somewhere around me, I first identified the person it came from, then
actually got the guts to ask her what she was wearing (I think I made
her day :-)). I tried it on me in a shop, lived with it for a few
hours, I definitely love it. But boy it's pricey. I've looked on Ebay,
I could buy it there for less, but my question is, how do I know I'm
buying the real thing and not a fake?
2) My second question is about fakes in general. I recently bought a
summer Max Mara dress on Ebay for not much (60$ IIRC), it's lovely and
fits me perfectly but I sort of think it's a fake, the seller was in
Hong Kong and 60 bucks is real cheap for a Max Mara. I don't mind, I
bought it "knowingly", but am I right to think it can't be the real
thing? And in general, does anyone have a rule of thumb for
determining that kind of thing?

Thanks
Nathalie in Switzerland
