Unless your friends can give you exact measurements, I wouldn't do it.
You'll be able to find your size, but you still have to deal with hips too
big/small for your frame. If you don't mind taking the gamble, however, go
ahead.
FWIW, I've never had a problem w/ pant legs being too short in Asian styles,
but I have stubby legs. A several years ago, it was quite common for pant
legs to be unhemmed until you bought them, and they would hem them for you
so that they work exactly with your shoes.
