Thanks for asking, Jean. I *finally* got the item from my lame-o ebay
seller. Since then, she has earned another negative feedback for failing to
respond to emails and slow shipping. (Her total feedback score is now down
to 6.) The item is not in new condition as claimed but it isn't horrible.
The seller responded to my neg fb with a comment that she'd told me she was
going to be out of town. The fact is that she had claimed she was sending
it out in "tomorrow's mail" on several occasions--and then failed to respond
to any of my emails. When I filed a complaint with PayPal, she suddenly
resurfaced.

I had filed a negative against another seller just a few weeks earlier.
That seller has earned several other negatives since then for the same
reasons: claiming checks had not been received, saying items were in the
mail when they weren't. When I filed an "Item Not Received" complaint with
ebay, he told them I hadn't paid for it. I had to give ebay the routing
number of the check, which had cleared weeks earlier. (He doesn't take
PayPal so the process is very slow even at its best.) That seller leaves
retaliatory lying negative feedback whenever he receives a negative. He
claimed in our feedbacks that my check had bounced! He has convinced a
couple of people to mutually withdraw their negative feedbacks but you can
still view their negative comments; the negative just doesn't count toward
the person's overall score. (People should be aware of this before being
bullied into withdrawing their negative comments.) His ebay account is
joes_clothes, just in case you want to check out his track record.

I appreciated all the advice I got from a.f.ers during the two transactions.
I've learned a few important things, particularly regarding dealing with
sellers who have very few feedbacks. Some of them are simply not responsive
enough in terms of communication or shipment. They just don't seem to
understand how important it is for them to communicate and ship in a timely
fashion. Hell, I've had absolute disasters during transactions when I've
been both buyer and seller. Extended power outages, major illness, etc.
I've always managed to get someone (usually Stevie) to contact my
buyer/seller to let the person know I'm not a deadbeat. I have even managed
to communicate when there's been a death in the family. I realize there are
circumstances which could really render an ebayer unable to communicate, but
I'm suspicious to say the least. And, truly, if you *know* you are going to
be traveling and totally unable to communicate via computer, you shouldn't
list items for sale or bid without notifying the seller that you'll be
unreachable.

It all boils down to simple consideration.

Fortunately, the vast majority of ebayers seem to know what they are doing.
