Actaully, now that I think about it, LEGO Star Wars isn't bad, but it
still wouldn't be the best. I still go with the FACT that SWKOTOR was
bad. It has an okay story, but the way you fight and move around is
terrible. It is almost as if the charcter in the game is having all
the fun and your just watching, like a movie. The fun about a game is
that you get to control the character and fight as if you were the
person or if it is a strategy game. SWKOTOR is neither. Actually, the
main aspect of proof that a game is good is if many people talk about
it. Lego Star Wars 1 and 2 are good, Halos 1, 2, and 3 are good, COD4
is good, etc. SWKOTOR 1 and 2 are bad. No one even refers to them at
all. It says it was the game of the year, but I highly doubt it. Also,
when I play it, it continously freezes. It takes a lot of space to
install. It is hard to win without cheats and it keeps repeating
things. You can only fly to about 6 different places. I mean, come on,
is there only 6 planets before the Empire? What is with everybody
using double bladed lightsabers anyway? I bought the game for $20,
what a complete waste of money. The manual looks interesting, but
that's about it.
Your assessment of KOTOR is quite accurate. The interface was clunky
as hell. The problem with it, in my opinion, is that they took a D&D
board game approach to a video game that is driven by action. The two
things are at odds with each other. How many people, while playing a
video game, want to stop and deal with a complex and unnecessary point
system?
You're absolutely right when you say it doesn't feel like you're
playing as the character. They took a great story and then distanced
the player from the character he's supposed to be playing as.
It really was an engaging story. While it didn't freeze up on me, the
sound files were often corrupted and distorted, which was very
annoying. I never finished KOTOR 1 even though I was very near the
end.

I might as well jump on one of the bandwagons leaving out. I personally
thought both KOTORs were the highest quality games to be equaled only by
the Gamecube SW games. Being able to do the trench run, DS 2 run, and
Battle of Endor kept me busy for literally hundreds of hours. Back to
KOTOR...considering all the games I've played, they were the most unique
and original because you had to discuss problems with your team, every
decision affected your template of powers, you could choose which team
members to send out, and everything leveled in an interesting and useful
way. You couldn't just pick 3 team members at random and expect to
survive. You had to "think" and "plan" your game play. It was almost SWG
like because of the shear number of customizable features. The story
lines kept me entertained, which never happens. My only complaint is
that both KOTORs ended badly. I would have gladly waited another year
for them to get the ending of KOTOR 2 at a level equal to the game overall.

Time for the hack and slash. But that's my 2 cents.

I agree, that it was original to have the whole do this and get light
side points or dark side points thing. As for the part of picking any
three characters and expect to survive, #1, have you ever heard of
Final Fantasy. #2, I have just been using a whole team of Jedi and
still survive.

I never got into the FF series. I'm not much on fantasy. Sci-fi is my passion. I believe it was the first KOTOR, you had to fight a rancor. If you just went in with any three characters, you were dead in under a minute. Didn't matter which three. Those kinds of fights were the fun ones for me. I tended to play hide and seek, throwing nades to drop his health.
