Let me pose this question: If Lucas really believed that the OT was
Anakin's story, why did he agree to let Joseph Campbell do a series of
talks that are based on the hero's journey of Luke? It just doesn't
ring true to me that the OT is Anakin's story, especially with Luke's
being ingrained in popular culture as the hero of the OT.
The full series IS anakin's story, it starts with his rise, pauses at his
fall and ends with his redemption. His path is the focal point of the
whole series. 4&5 are focused on Luke's story, and taken out of context of
I-III it would seem to be all about him, but when you factor in the past,
then the overall story is Anakin's.
You can't go back and change history. The backstory in the PT,
miserable as it was, gave us filler information on how Vader fell, but
it certainly doesn't change the focal point of the OT. We gain more
insight into Vader in Ep. V but that's about it.
Tell me honestly, before you saw the PT, would you have thought it was
Vader's story?
Todd
