I agree with Darth Mura here; the force, in creating something by
itself, would be exhibiting a consciousness which has never been
attributed to it. The Force has always been something which has been
shown as an element controlled by an outside force (Jedi, Sith,
whatever). To say it is something which can create or otherwise
manipulate things under its own conscience is a new development not
shown in the story as it is currently presented.
I don't think it is a new development.
Qui-Gon states something to the affect of:
QUI-GON : A boy... his cells have the highest concentration of
midi-chlorians I have seen in a life form. It is possible he was
conceived
by the midi-chlorians.
QUI-GON : Finding him was the will of the Force...I have no doubt of
that.
There is too much happening here...
Considering this dialogue was taken from the point where the "new
development" was presented, I don't think it could be considered as
evidence the concept existed before.
I'm not sure I understand what your saying. Qui-Gon talks though out the
movie as one who beleives the Force is a guiding and controlling entity. He
even calls it "the living force" implying it is more that just a special
power.
In a New Hope Obi-Wan responds to Luke:
LUKE: You mean it controls your actions?
BEN: Yes, but it also obeys your commands.
I think this is an interpretation on your part as to what OW was actually
saying. It could be taken as OW telling Luke the Force is an independent
entity or it could be viewed as OW telling Luke the Force controls a
Jedi's actions by giving the Force-adept person a sense as to what is
about to happen. The Force-adept person uses this added sense to act, but
wouldn't be considered to be controlled without their own volition. The
Force doesn't move the Jedi's body, the Jedi moves it's body with aid of
the Force.
I see it as explain a duel nature of the force, it might guide you block a
laser bolt fired at you from behind, then react to you "pushing" the
attacker away.
But as I've pointed out countless times, it is a movie and some of it is
just necessary for the story to be told.
