Very near the end of RotS, Yoda says to Obi-Wan that he will teach O-W
how to commune with his former master and old friend, Qui-Gon. In eps
IV, V, and VI, O-W is able to talk and show himself to Luke, and I
assume that Qui-Gon was to do the same with O-W after RotS.

But Luke
never needed to "learn" to communicate with the dead Obi-Wan.



No, no, everyone's misconstruing those visitation scenes. It's not Luke
that's communing with Obi-Wan, it's Obi-Wan's old "friend" Artoo. Obi-Wan
just nudges Artoo from the netherworlds and tell him "Yo, Artoo, I have a
message for your Master. You know what a smart person does when he's being
shot at by fifty stormtroopers and your friends are trying to get their ship
launched? Uh, can you say 'RUN', idiot." Artoo then creates Obi-Wan's voice
and image with his holoprojector in a way that makes Luke think he's hearing
and seeing old Ben. Notice how much like a hologram those Jedi ghosts looks
like and how Luke never hears from Obi-Wan unless Artoo is nearby. Well,
except for that one visitation on Hoth but Luke was delirious then so he
probably conjured up that one out of his mind. Everyone just assumes Yoda
lived on Dagobah from the end of ROTS to mid-ROTJ. But ROTS never
established where Yoda's immediate destination was. In reality, Yoda only
went to Dagobah after he saw through the Force that Luke was on his way
there and looking for him, and thus turned Luke's hypothermia-driven
delusion into reality.
