The album was called "A Great Gift Idea" (1974) by The Credibility Gap
(Harry Shearer, Micheal McKean, David L. Lander, Richard Beebe). The
cut: "Where's Johnny?" (the greatest Tonight Show/Johnny Carson parody
ever).

Beebe, or perhaps McKean (as Ed McMahon), says to Shearer (as Johnny)
to support a joke during the monologue :"This was in the market, sir."

This is, hands down, the most obscure reference Paul Shaffer has ever
made.

You are correct, sir!

Beat me to it but saved me some typing.

"Where's Johnny?" is one of my favorite things on any comedy LP. When 'Do=
n
Rickles' tells 'Ed', "Good, ya' fat turd!" I still fall out on the floor.=

can you find this album anywhere? sounds like some of the old early
70's national lampoon stuff......

I've actually been looking for the Cred Gap's two albums on CD without much
luck...favorite track is "In Someone's Sneakers", in which Harry Shearer
channels the spirit of Rod McKuen....r

Me?  Sarcastic?
Yeah, right.

Mr. Shearer has helpfully posted the entire "Where's Johnny" bit on
his web site and you should all listen to it post haste.
