Here's my Trip Report for Thursday, Feb. 3rd.

I always tell my friend Mark when Howard Stern has been on the LS,
he's a huge HS fan. He immediately starts whining that I should hook
him up with tickets, blah blah blah like I have some kind of pull.

When I happened to notice on the "upcoming week" schedule that Stern
was going to be there on the 3rd, I thought, "What the heck, I'll give
it a shot....probably won't get tickets, but if I do boy  -  Mark'll
be impressed. I'll get some respect and won't have to listen to the
whining anymore.  I filled in the online ticket request and put the
3rd in all 3 date choices.  What do you know, they called me!  One
trivia question had to be answered by us, and one by Mark, and we got
4 tickets for the show.

We took the train into the city and arrived at the theater by 1:15. I
was told to be there between 2 and 3, but since there were already
people in line, Randi (Mark's wife) and I got in line (in the bitter,
freezing cold) while the husbands walked down to some pizza place on
Broadway that was featured on the FoodTV network. "Just to get a slice
to hold them over."

OMG it was sooooooo cold.  I had just started a 2nd round of
anibiotics for this horrible bout of sinusitis I'm battling.  My eyes
have been so swollen and distorted that I actually put Preparation H
on my eyelids before I went to bed Wednesday night so I might look
somewhat human to go out in public the next day.  What I DO for my
friends - standing outside the ED with numb toes and a hacking cough.
thankfully the husbands returned with hot tea for both of us and Tony
bought me earmuffs which helped.

At 2:00 we were let into the lobby with our photo IDs to claim our
tickets.  We were about the 10th in line, and they just put an "A" on
the back of our ticket.  We had to be back at 3:30, the "A" people had
to line up in a different spot than the others - we were let in first.

Little did I know that as I sat in Angelo's having a light lunch as my
toes thawed, my friend Don was right around the corner!  You would
have thought we'd have picked up each other's  vibes or something, but
no.  My clogged sinus passageways most likely were to blame.  I don't
know what Don's excuse was.

Promptly at 3:30, back in line with the A people.  We were herded into
the outside lobby once again.  We were given the "schpeel" - but it
was shorter than usual.  After a little bit of a wait, into the
theater we went.  The four of us were seated about 4 rows back right
in front of the CBSO - the aisle against the wall.  Then, (finally)
instead of the usual funny film clips of Dave, they now show a
hilarious instructional video narrated by Alec Baldwin on what to
expect during the show and how to conduct yourself as a Late Show
Audience Member.

One of the examples of what noise "not" to make showed a guy with a
hacking/wheezing/phlegm-filled cough.  Tony gave me a look and I
popped a Halls.   Another "don't" showed an "audience member" asking
Dave for an autograph and a "long awkward hug."   They demonstrated
how they handle unruly audience members (by dragging them, kicking and
screaming, from their seat.)   It was a welcome change, and got the
point across in a humorous way.

One by one the bandmembers were introduced and then Paul...by the
way Eddie Brill looks FANTASTIC.  Wheatgrass, people!  Dave ran out
for his little pre-show chit chat.   I had 2 questions/comments ready,
but Dave didn't look my way and he called on the guy who wanted to
move from the East Side to the West Side.  Although his question was
who he should bet on for the Super Bowl.  Dave said he was going to
bet on the number of seconds Christina Agulera was going to hold a
note during the singing of the National Anthem.   or something like
that.

For those who are dying to know,  I was either going to say:

1.  Dave, America is long overdue for a geography lesson on your head.
(P.S. - Dave, with his fresh haircut - was perfectly coiffed for
this demonstration.)

or

2.   Dave, doesn't my friend Mark look EXACTLY like Tony Mendez??????
(P.S. - He *really* does!   And he has the same exact laugh!!!!)

Oh well, I've had plenty of turns. :)  And I really was so conflicted
about which to use it was making me anxious.

So Howard Stern came out and you all saw/heard the whole thing. It was
great.  When he was leaving the stage, he made a point to walk over to
Paul and shake his hand.  I politely waited until there was ample
clapping to let loose with a pent-up cough every now and then. ( Into
my sleeve, of course!)

Oh - the Vince Lombardi thing didn't start out right, Dave was sitting
there for awhile, Vince waited too long to begin talking - that had to
be done over.

And THEN, a serendipitous moment for me - we had us a little sing-a-
long with Naughty By Nature!!  Ok, so it's not "Sweet Caroline", but
hey!   It was FUN!   Even Mark, who doesn't even chair dance, was
waving his arm and sayin' HEY! .... HO!! .....  HEY!  ..... HO!!!!
Whooo! (whoops!)

We then walked over to Becco for dinner.  Amazingly, the minute we
walked out of the restaurant, a cab magically appeared before us, then
- as we walked into Penn Station, our train was boarding!  No
waiting!  We were home by 10:30.

Btw, I gasped when Dave said "2 years" -  not too aggressively,
though,  I would have choked on my Halls.

Great trip report. I'm sorry I wasn't there. Also sorry you were so
sick.

Other than that, did you enjoy the journey and the anticipation as
much as the Show?

Sally ;)
