Archive / How to order a copy of an old episode?

I assume that there is a video archive all shows past & present and I
am wondering how one goes about obtaining a copy of a specific show.
My dad appeared on Letterman - not sure of the exact date, but it was
some time in the 80's - under the guise of being interviewed for a
bodyguard position. My dad is ex-NYPD and did a lot of security/
bodyguard work in and around the city at the time. I have no idea how
many people were interviewed total but the segment that aired featured
4 interviews, my dad's being one of them. There was one other guy and
two women - both of the women, dad is fairly certain, were cops.
Can you please provide me with some direction as to how I might go
about getting a copy? My dad used to have it on video but thinks the
tape was misplaced in a recent move. He's got a birthday coming up in
March (he'll be 77) and I'd love to surprise him with a copy of the
segment. He likes to brag to his golf buddies about how he was on
Letterman once, but he no longer has the "proof".
