What was the point of that?
They talked about the death of Soupy Sales in the second segment.
Soupy Sales was the king of pie throwing. They were doing a tribute
to Soupy Sales. Did you miss the talk about Soupy Sales in the second
segment?
Maybe...that was the point
I saw it, and it still doesn't make any sense. If Muhammad Ali died,
would they put on boxing gloves and slug each other? It was a stupid
waste of time, and they had to bump Brian Regan to do it.
Unlike Muhammad Ali, Regis Philbin and David Letterman share something
in common with Soupy Sales. He was both a comedian and the host of a
show.

Yes, and he clearly was a profound influence on both of their lives
and careers, demonstrated by the fact that Letterman has done a show
in NY since 1982 and Soupy Sales, who lived in NY, was never a guest.
