In both print and in audio Aaron compares Dave to Roman Polanski! What
universe does Aaron inhabit that he thinks what Dave and Polanski did
are somehow related? I really thought Aaron was smarter than this.

I haven't yet heard the audio, but I see nothing in his print that
compares Dave to Polanski. All he wrote was in this response to a
reader's comment:

Annette: The audiences he has would laugh if he got up and told he
raped a girl and murdered her. They laugh at anything he says and hes
not funny anymore.

[Aaron]: I wouldn't quite go that far, but it's absolutely true that
this audience was in a good mood and ready to laugh. They laughed at
the Roman Polanski jokes. They laughed at the Mark Sanford joke. Of
course, they had no idea that David Letterman was about to enshrine
himself in their rarified company. But they were a good crowd, and
it's possible that Dave made a last-minute decision just to play to
the crowd. It's also possible that Dave knew all along that he was
going to tell this as just another funny personal story, like the time
a bear got into his cabin or he and Regina decided to go get hitched.
Either way, the result was surreal.

Aaron wasn't comparing Letterman to Polanski. He simply noted that the
audience laughed at both Polanski and Sanford jokes during the
monologue, and that it wasn't prepared to realize that Dave's
revelations in the next segment weren't intended as more comedic
material.
