Is this in fact the first time Jay's face has been seen on the Late Show?
9/25/00 desk chat: Dave shows a "New York Times Magazine" cover with
Jay Leno on it, and says, "Something very good, very positive came out
of this, because as you can see, it's our good friend Jay Leno on the
cover, and I'll be honest with you, until I saw this picture, I was
under the impression and the belief that I was the goofiest-looking
man on television!"
10/04/00: CBS botches the signal for 53 seconds in the Central and
Eastern time zones. / It actually airs Jay Leno for a moment.
10/11/00: "What Does It Cost?": George Clarke with a $1,500 light
bulb, Dave's bulletproof shield: $450, Pat Farmer - $250 per show,
Corky Ramirez - $350 per show, Dave Dorsett takes his pay in adult
videos, George Plimpton's explanation of jokes to the balcony audience
- $5,000 per week, building inspectors' bribes - $500, the open phone
line to Leonard Nimoy (who's watching Leno) - $10,000 per night, pest
control on Regis - $200 per month, lawsuits / Biff disses George
Clooney. - $7,000,000
6/15/01: "CBS Mailbag": 1. Where do you recommend me to go on my
vacation? How about some kind of remedial school? 2. Do you ever stop
to pick up change on the sidewalk? Paul tragically falls into a
manhole after Dave mistakes its cover for a giant coin. 3. Can I host
the show for a few minutes? Jason Lynch hosts. / Dave switches over to
Leno. 4. What's happened to Speedy Dave? / Michael Z. McIntee, as a
Connecticut state trooper, pulls Dave over.

10/08/03: from CNN: "Bored Arnold Schwarzenegger Supporter of the
Night" (Jay Leno, checking his watch)
1/12/04: Dave has a lengthy desk chat about his relationship with CBS
over the years. He transitions into a rant about the People's Choice
Awards, hosted recently on CBS. It seems that the "Late Show with
David Letterman" was nominated as best talk show. Dave shows us a
printed version of the CBS Web site plug for the program and some
nominees, and who's in the group picture but Mr. Jay Leno! / Dave
announces that he wants a call from a "big deal" person at CBS, and he
wants him or her to claim that the person responsible has been fired.
This response is to occur within 24 hours. / Dave favors us with one
of his Leno imitations.
12/09/08: (possible) (Today it was announced that Jay Leno will get a
prime time show of some kind.) /
a special announcement from CBS: / video:
"On Tuesday, NBC announced a bold new programming move giving Jay Leno
a nightly one-hour variety show at 10 P.M. In a move to bolster our
own programming schedule, CBS is pleased to announce we're giving
David Letterman an earlier time slot, as well. So tune in the all-new
"Late Show" at 4 A.M., following the Slanket™ infomercial.
That's right: Slanket™, the world's first blanket with sleeves.
You've never known such comfort. Only on CBS."
All this when a simple "No" would suffice.
