We're going to have Stupid Pet Tricks for real in my neighborhood this
weekend...got a flyer in my gate announcing that Saturday night, 6pm to
midnight, they're going to do a TNR (Trap, Neuter/Spay, Return) on the feral cat
colony...all the cats they catch are going to get sterilized Sunday, then a full
day to recuperate, after which they'll be released back into the same
neighborhood Monday night with a little nick taken out of the left ear so they
don't collect the same ones on a future sweep....

What I learned from this flyer that previous communications didn't make clear is
that they acknowledge that some of my neighbors are providing aid and comfort to
the strays, and they ask that nobody feed the feral adults so their stomachs are
empty for the surgery (it's okay to feed any kittens)...they also mention that
this is a "federally protected feral colony", so I'm not sure if my occasional
offers to friends to "come out and pick up a kitten or two if you need them"
would actually be permitted....

Anyway, I seldom see them on my patio at night, although several of them seem to
spend all daylight hours sleeping out there, so they likely won't be hiding from
the patrols amongst my deck chairs...otherwise I'd have to chuckle at the idea
that people stomping around in the dark would have any shot at catching these
streetwise jungle beasts....r
