I'm reprising the birthday poem I wrote for y'all in 2003. It's a bit
dated, but maybe it will remind you of the good old days. We miss you!
A Twins' Tale
Childhood clashes drove them far apart
The twins, of course, both funny and smart.
Born March nineteenth, too early for spring
Winter's cold foretold the trials they would bring.
Brad went east to join literary elite,
While Tom stayed home to eat variety meat.
Most twins, they say, are really quite chummy
So why would Brad write a book for a dummy?
Was it young Tom who liked to twirl in a dress?
Stamping and sobbing, "Mom loved you best!"
Or was that Brad, sipping mochas and moanin',
"Life would be sweet if not for Tom Cronin"?
And so the years passed; now time's chariot chases.
Lads -- quarrel no more since nothing erases
The tie that joins your fates together.
A bond not of chains or cuffs or leather,
But a day we now pause to celebrate
In AFL fashion -- the gay and the straight.
Pen a verse, pour the wine, feast on tripe and pie,
For the Cronin-Hill-Hall pair we'll need a supply!
Happy Birthday to Tommy and to his twin, Brad.
We thank you for giving us more than a tad
Of your wit and wisdom and Letterman lore.
But here ends the rhyme, lest I foolishly bore.
We hope you agree; it's really no contest
On this special day, your brother is best!
