What's happenin', people? Let me ask you all a question. Do you have
Oscar Fever?
I LOVE Oscar night!! Too bad I haven't seen very many of the movies
this year, but guessing the winners is only a small part of the
excitement for me. I love seeing all the women in their gowns and
hearing the acceptance speeches and waiting and hoping for an
unscripted moment of hilarity.
I saw "Slumdog Millionaire" and hope that it will win Best Picture
even though I haven't seen any of the other nominees in that category.
"Slumdog Millionaire" was so good, I don't have to see anything else.
And without having seen the other nominees, I think the director of
"Slumdog Millionaire" should win -- whoever he/she is.
I saw "Vicki Christina Barcelona" and wasn't bowled over by Penelope
Cruz. I think the other women in the Best Supporting Actress category
could easily outshine her, though I haven't seen the other nominated
performances. I hope Marisa Tomei or Amy Adams wins, based on nothing
except I like them very much and admire their work in other films
Same with Anne Hathaway in "Rachel Getting Married." I liked the movie
and Anne was fine, but there is no way her performance could be better
than almost anything Kate Winslet has ever done. I'd vote for Kate
without seeing either of her movies this year -- "The Reader" and
"Revolutionary Road." Or Meryl Streep, who is always amazing. Just NOT
Angelina Jolie.
I hope Mickey Rourke wins Best Actor, just because I love a great
comeback story and was captivated by him in "Body Heat" and "9 1/2
Weeks," but since I haven't seen any of the films in this category, I
don't know if he deserves my vote. The only actor I really *don't*
want to win is Brad Pitt. I admit I'm not objective; I am
unapologetically anti-Brangelina. However, I'm fairly confident that
the other nominees were better than Brad and he probably doesn't have
a chance.
I saw "Kung Fu Panda" and loved it. I don't usually enjoy animated
films, either, but am often forced to watch them. I vote for Jack
Black as the overweight Kung Fu master.
Only 5 hours and 12 minutes before the Oscars.
Kate
Here are my predictions:
Best Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Best Actress: Kate Winslet
Best Actor: Mickey Rourke
Best Director: Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire)
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Bonus: Best Animated Film: Wall-E
Thanks, Rod, for supplying Danny Boyle's name. I should have
remembered -- "Slumdog" was amazing. I'm going to see it again soon --
maybe this time I can open my eyes during the gruesome parts.
I agree with all your predictions. I'll be surprised if Penelope Cruz
*doesn't* win, but I rented "VCB" just to see why she was nominated
and I was underwhelmed. If it weren't for the kiss with Scarlett
Johansson and if they both weren't so gorgeous, Penelope wouldn't have
gotten so much buzz in the role. Javier Bardem sure looked hotttt...
