I started to perk up during the segments when Bill Scheft could be
heard shouting in the background. There's probably an earpiece now,
which explains the delay between questions and responses. I'm finding
it funny, knowing how it's being put together.

A few nights ago I was flipping around during a commercial break on the LS and I
caught the Bob & Tom Show with Bill Scheft on the phone. They were talking about
the Singletary bit. I didn't catch the beginning. From what I did catch, Bill
said he scripted the whole piece and put it up on the teleprompter. After it
aired the first time, Dave said that Art sounded more like a receptionist than a
pro football coach. Scheft said his solution would be to feed Art the lines.
When Scheft told Dave he couldn't find a way to feed the lines without being
heard, Dave told him to leave the voice prompts in. He said he didn't care if
people heard them.

Then they talked about Singletary's reaction to the bit. Scheft heard a press
conference where he was asked and he didn't know what to make of it. Scheft was
then asked if anybody who was parodied like that on the show made a stink about
it and he told a story about the last days of the show at NBC when they got an
actor to play Jack Welch. Another exec objected to the material, saying that
Jack would never say things the character is saying and the LN writers said that
since it wasn't Jack Welch it didn't matter. Then the commercial break was over
before I heard how they resolved it.

First, what's the Bob & Tom show?

Second, it's always great to hear stories inside the days of LN. The
closest date I could find that might (or might not) refer to Bill's
anecdote was December 20, 1989, when Dave played a videotape of a G.E.
Executive Christmas party. Couldn't find anything nearer the end of
the show's run.
