I just finished an excellent novel featuring an elephant, Rosie, as
one of the characters. It's titled "Water for Elephants" and is
written by Sara Gruen.
Amazon customers give it 4 1/2 stars (out of 5) and their reviews are
filled with effusive praise. A great read!

I have it. Just haven't started it yet. I read the Amazon review and
it sounds like a good book, although circuses always scared me. Rosie
the elephant sounds like a great character, so I'll brave it one of
these days. I noted that it has cases of animal abuse in it, which I
hate to read about.
JUMBO, that great movie about a circus elephant, is much more upbeat
and enjoyable. Doris Day had the lead, and sings her heart out in a
song called "Little Girl Blue..." by Rodgers and Hart. No Oscar for
Doris. So, tell me, what does the Oscar mean? She deserved one just
for that song performance alone. It's on DVD.
I gives up on Oscar. Okay, Kate, if you recommend it, I'll read it. I
took THE CHOSEN out of the library, so I have to read that first.
