Simplistic, politically-uneducated Canadian take on this: (initial
thought) McCain is throwing in the towel and doesn't want to waste a
good candidate for the next election as his running mate, (second
thought) maybe they think she'll appeal to those who would have voted
for Hillary, (third thought) who talked him into this?
(these are my views only and do not reflect those of Canadians or dumb
guys in general)
My first thought was "HUH??!?!?" Then I looked up her bio, and I think she's
someone the voters will really respond to. She IS middle America.
Until they stop and wonder what in the hell McCain was thinking.
It makes a complete mockery of McCain's pledge to select a Vice
President who'll be "ready on Day One."
Dear god -- even his senior campaign advisor Charlie Black said,
"“She’s going to learn national security at the foot of the master for
the next four years."

Honestly -- was Palin the most qualified person to succeed him should
he not be able to complete his term that he could find? McCain met her
_one_ time in February. Christ almighty.
McCain's met her one time, and yet, he said [from the article above]:
“She’s not from these parts, and she’s not from Washington, but when
you get to know her, you’re going to be as impressed as I am,” Mr.
McCain told a midday rally...
I'm sure he'll get back to us on how he got to know her well enough in
that one meeting to vouch on her readiness to be Commander in Chief if
he were to have a stroke or drop dead during his first term. And I'm
still curious about why McCain was so selective when it came to
releasing his medical records?
I applaud Palin's decision not to abort her Down syndrome baby and I
think she's probably a smart woman who may have a strong future in
politics, but is she qualified right now to be second in line if
McCain is elected? Considering McCain's age, I'm sure voters will look
more carefully than usual at his VP's foreign policy and economic
credentials.
