I wouldn't be surprised if it triggers diabetes as well,
all that fake sugar screwing with your insulin levels.
(That's just my own theory)

My diabetic nurse educator told me that diet soda was better for you
than both regular soda and orange juice. Diet soda has no sugar
whereas regular soda and orange juice is full of sugar. You should
always read the labels for the sugar content. Diet soda doesn't have
fake sugar, it has NO sugar.

Maybe...who thinks your theory is wrong

Crash meant the effect of sugar substitutes on the insulin levels of a healthy
body. You're referring to sugar vs substitute effects on a diabetic. They're
different effects.

Devra Davis is a top cancer researcher in Pittsburgh. I've seen her speak a few
times. She's really concerned about the long term effects of all of the
chemicals we ingest every year. The FDA and other health researchers can give
animals large doses of chemicals over short periods to see if tumors develop but
there is no test to simulate the effect of a relatively small dose of a chemical
over twenty or thirty years. She mentioned aspartame as an example, where there
is anecdotal evidence of aspartame users developing brain cancer and says daily
drinking of diet pop might cause a large number of brain tumors in 25-30 years.
She says that scientists can't prove it will or won't happen, but since no
scientific study ever of diet soft drinks showed that anybody loses weight just
by drinking them, the risk shouldn't be seen as acceptable.

I know I've read recently that drinking diet sodas is actually linked
to obesity, so I tried to find an article about the research study.
Here's one from the Wall Street Journal, not exactly the journal I was
looking for, but it will do:

Aha! Now I found an article at a medical website:

http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=87080

There are also studies that suggest diet soda is related to "metabolic
syndrome."

There is a lot of speculation that aspartame causes everything from
brain damage to cancer, but the FDA still approves it.
As for me, I don't trust the FDA, so I avoid all artificial sweeteners
and won't let my son have any diet drinks or caffeinated sodas,
especially since he needs to *gain* weight. I can't resist an
occasional Coke (I *am* from Atlanta, home of Coca-Cola), but
generally I try to avoid all soda drinks -- unless mixed with Maker's
Mark, of course.

We've all tried to convince Brady to give up, or at least cut way
back, on the Mountain Dew, but so far without much success.
