You can make all the excuses you
want... "Change the channel" is a lame
solution to the real problem: stagnation,
repetition, Writers in their comfort zone.

"Change the channel," "read a book," "walk the dog," etc. are practical
solutions for those not entertained by the program they're watching.
Apparently Dave, the staff, WPI, CBS, the sponsors et. al. are satisfied
with the way the show is aired at present and certainly wouldn't seek
any advice from an outsider like you.
