If I were administering the AOL chat rooms, the line for me would be
this: if the chat room -- by its very name -- were obviously-blatantly
created for the express purpose of discussing children in a patently
lascivious-'erotic' context, or if it were obviously created to
facilitate the dissemination of materials thereof. (As opposed to, say,
an incest victims support group-chat.)

Of course, I suppose an argument could be made that keeping these chat
rooms active is in fact helpful to law enforcement agencies.

...which, some will argue, is entrapment.
I think AOL does (at least used to) patrol the chatrooms, and close some,
and not allow certain words in chatrooms titles, but, it's been a while
since I've been there. I quit the AOL when they discontinued the
newsgroup access.

It appears that AOL periodically flushes out all the member-created chat
rooms that are blatantly related to child pornography or child 'erotica.'
However, they're re-created just as fast as they're closed.

In any case, the decision to close such rooms appears to be arbitrary &
haphazard, and it's not done in a timely manner.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying AOL should be the 'chat room police.'
But when there's a member-created chat room titled, say,
'TradingUnDrAgedXXXGrlPics,' I think they (should) have a social
responsibility to close it in a timely fashion.

can't disagree there.
oddly enough, there was a story being reported on local news here today,
about some guy who took a 15 yr old girl out on his boat, and paid her $40
to do some, let's just say pictures. geeeeeez, dude! perhaps it would cost
you more than $40, but you could, if you're into that kind of thing, find
plenty of willing 20 yr olds, I'm quite sure....
