So, what are *you* all up to this weekend?

The weekend is past, but here's some of my doings.

Friday evening I went to a rehearsal of a band
that I often conduct. However, someone else was
conducting a program the next day, so I was playing
bass clarinet with the group. The Saturday program included
the Gustav Holst First Suite for Military Band, an
a suite arranged from Handel's Water Music, and
recent works by two composers who were present.
I'm glad that, by the time of the concert, I had practiced
my infrequently-used bass clarinet enough to be safely
past the "wounded animal" stage of sound production.

Sunday Danine and I went on an Art Deco Society tour
of Spanish influence in that 1920-1940 period in San
Francisco. We started out at the Frieda Kahlo exhibit at
the Museum of Modern Art, then boarded Mexican
buses (outfitted for use as party buses) to ride first
to Mission Dolores, the first building in San Francisco.
Then we rode to City College where we viewed a gigantic
mural created by Diego Rivera in 1940, currently displayed
in a narrow lobby for a campus auditorium. A faculty member,
soon to publish a book about the mural, lectured in front of
the 22 by 73 foot work of art.

The Mexican buses then went to the San Francisco Elks Lodge
for snacks and adult beverages.
