BostonBill's 2008 DaveCon Trip Report

I slipped through the cracks again and this was my 6th DaveCon.
I usually take Amtrak but they were having scheduling issues so I
decided to fly. Jet Blue was nearly the same price and its only a 45
minute flight. The trip started (wed /18th) with Captain Bob telling
us JFK was holding up incoming planes due to heavy traffic. This was
fun especially since we were on the tarmac. We left 30 minutes later
and got to JFK with no other issues. Took a cab to my cousins house in
Brooklyn.
Made my way into Manhatten for a bite at Island Burger where I met
Traci, Helen and Tom W. Walked over to Homeland Brewery near 30 Rock
with Tom in the middle of a steady rain shower. After a beer made my
way back to Brooklyn. While walking through Times Square there was a
huge crowd watching Natasha Bettingfield tape a video.
Dave Con Day Thursday. Beautiful day. It really is amazing how lucky
we have been with the weather.
Made my way to 53rd St and arrived around 11am to see Mark and Bob/
Nekk sitting on the steps of the theater.
Bill DeLace was hanging around talking to some of the crew. He kind of
gave us a look like "Oh it's those guys again." Anyway some more folks
joined us and we went to Angelo's for lunch. Have to say the service
was pretty poor.
Hey who's the guy in the suit? It's Dr Rod. I remember how nervous I
was the first time I met everyone but Dr. Rod was really cool.
To the theater to check-in. I got number 10.
Over to 53rd to bother staffers. Will Lee came over and said hi and
take pictures as did MikeMack. I met Bill Scheft for the first time
and he was a very nice guy. Talked to Rupert about the Jets and went
over to Jamba Juice. Mighty tasty. I had a small so I was only mildly
annoyed.
The taping has been pretty much discussed. I had a great seat. Three
seats in from the aisle by the band and a perfect view of the desk and
guest chair. Lehecka on my right and a non-afl'er on my left.
I love listening to the CBSO and I never get tired of it. Dave was in
a great mood. Eddie and Bill came over to the desk during breaks and
Dave smiled throughout the taping.
We taped the TMS in the lobby and met Jerry Foley's lovely assistant,
Kim.
The only disappointment was not getting time on the set afterwards as
they were busy redoing the carpet at Dave's desk.
Off to dinner at Cascina's on 9th. Great food and they treated us very
well. A few of us went over to Smith's on 8th for a few drinks before
we called it a night. Uneventful trip home Friday.
It was really great seeing everyone and meeting the newbies.
Thanks to Traci and Renee and Keith for putting it all together. And
thanks to Walter and Jay and of course Tony Mendez for being great
with us as usual.
