Forget Donzie. How was *your* first experience at DaveCon, Mr. Greg?
Just watched the show, and slowed down the audience pan. I *think* I saw
Greg, Foxie, Tom W, Kate, old matador, boston bill, and there was the
handsomely dressed Dr., too!
More details needed!
Yes!! We were sitting in the third row right in middle of the
theater.
It was a wonderful show - Eddie Brill even announced during his warmup
that "the "Letterman People" are here!" Dave came out and started
talking about the weather...it was a perfect day, not hot, no humidity
and sunshine..but he went on for a bit about how you start to sweat
behind your knees and then you have to be around a bunch of other
people and how miserable that can be.
He asked Biff how much time they had and I think Biff said one minute
and five seconds. Dave laughed and asked "Does anybody have any
quest".....that's when my hand shot up in the air. You've got to grab
his attention immediately :) "Yes, ma'am..you right there." He was
pointedly pointing right at me so I was positive it *was* me. What is
your name? he asked. I told him my name. "Where are you from?" I
told him, and once again, he said he never heard of that where was
it? I told him and he said ""Thank you for driving up here today to
be with us...how long are you in town?" I said until 9 pm. Then he
asked if I was alone or with my husband and were either of the
gentlemen sitting next to me my husband. I said no and he asked where
my husband was and I said at home. Well, who are those guys sitting
next to you? I grinned and shrugged my shoulders. (It was Greg and
Tom).
Observation from Helen: That was when I SHOULD have said that they
were my internet friends and I was there with a group of friends from
alt.fan.letterman.
So then Dave asked me what my question was. I asked, "Dave, why don't
they have a wax figure of you over there at the......wax museum?" I
have never been certain how to pronounce "Tussaud" I guess you say it
just like it is spelled, but it sounds so weird to me that I think I'm
saying it wrong. So I think it's better to not say it at all.
There's only one wax museum in New York so I figured he (and everyone
else) knew to what I was referring. ( Actually, during my hesitation
between the....and "wax museum" I did hear a woman say quietly
"Madame Tussaud's.) So Dave says something like, "Hell, I can just go
over there myself!" or something like that - everyone else was
listening better than I at that point.
So that was cool. Somebody mentioned to me that I must wear
"Question Catnip" - that's the 4th time Dave's called on me. Still
swears he never heard of Voorhees :)
Then the show began Dave made reference to being in the wax museum
during the monologue. Jason Bateman was entertaining. They edited
out part of his segment when he was trying to get Paul to play "Take
Me Out to the Ballgame." He joked that, being a Canadian, Paul might
start playing hockey tunes. Then during the song, Paul didn't play
the "So it's one, two, three strikes you're out" part at the right
time so they had to start that over, but they cut that confusion out
as well. Francis Albert Lincoln was kinda bizarre, but fun. He did
sing the entire "My Way" to us. And he wasn't bad.
Teri Garr. such an inspiration. The affection between her and Dave
is genuine. I'd rather listen a guest like her or Isabella Rossellini
any time over the young airheaded celebrity beauties of the day.
Oh, the musical guest was just awful. The audience sat in total
suffering silence. I didn't see one head bobbing in time to the
music. When the male backup dancers pranced out I almost laughed out
loud...it looked like a skit from SNL.
The CBS Orchestra just gets better and better. They all look
fantastic. Felicia would win a cool/not cool clip hands down every
time - she is beyond cool..
Can't wait to see the final result of the TMS. Ends with our group
running in terror out of the front of the Ed, much to the puzzled
looks from onlookers.
I was so happy to meet Greg and Dr. Rod in person. All in all, I'd
say it was one of the best DaveCons ever. The show was taped early
(3:30) so we had plenty of time to hang out before I had to leave to
make the 9:30 bus. Now I have a "bus buddy" to walk to the Port
Authority with -WhyAskMe4 - Pat - who lives literally 10 minutes away
from me! Got home in time to watch the show with Tony . Can't wait
to see everyone's pictures...I didn't bring my camera with me this
time!
