I know we've previously spent some time discussing 'reality' TV, but
here's what I want to know. Do you think the executives in charge of
'reality' programming at MTV Networks (which includes VH1) are cognizant
of the fact that their product is garbage?

Yes they know and they don't care ....and they most likely don't have
kids who watch the crap they produce or they would possibly develop a
conscience over it. The state of television programming is sinking
lower and lower. Most shows seem to be about dark subjects, murder
and such. Most commercials are about drugs we can take. There are
more beeps than words. Family life is not portrayed as happy and
harmonious, they're cynical and disrespectful. So this is what people
watch and consequently this is what we've deposited into our brains to
think about.. Garbage in, garbage out. What did we watch when we
were kids? Ozzie and Harriet, Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver.
So because of THAT, we grew up with subconscious unrealistic
expectations about family life and the divorce rate is 50%.

I don't agree about the cause and effect you set up there, but...
