I like Fun Facts, too, but I find them uneven in quality. If I held a
high position on the LSDL staff instead of my current Assistant Fan, I
wouldn't lock "Fun Facts" into a certain day, but would wait until I
had a good batch. (You'll notice that Dave rejects a certain number of
them on camera.)
Here are my problems with this segment;
This would be a great radio bit, however, "Late Show" is on television.
There is no visual enhancement whatsoever.
Dave is the visual enhancement. (Sorry, just couldn't resist that one)
They give Dave way too many pages...the bit goes on and on usually,
until Dave starts to reject pages towards the end. Also, as you pointed
out, this would probably be better served as a monthly segment, not a
weekly one.
I may be wrong, but my guess would be this is part of the bit. Dave
doing on air editing has always been a part of the show.
Lastly, it's not an environmentally friendly bit in the least -- why
must each "fun fact" be on a separate full-sized piece of paper? Surely
they could fit at least two or three one-line "fun facts" on each
page????? Or else use index cards.
Oh, yeah, reducing to index cards is gonna make ALL the difference.
