Re: Second Weekend in March Time Wasting Thread

Right now, I am stuck in Dial-Up Hell. As a first step toward doing my taxes, I installed the TaxCut software. Well, the next thing you have to do after installing is let it download the updates, which it estimated would take 80 minutes over dial-up. It has been 3 and 1/2 hours so far, and is only up to about 2/3 on the download progress meter. Meanwhile, I can't disconnect and use the phone, and I can barely send/receive e-mails or AFL posts while the thing is hogging all the bandwidth. I had to temporarily disable network activity in BOINC, which was trying to upload and/or download at the same time, as a result of which the TaxCut update kept failing.

If this ever finishes, I still have to download and install the state program and get the state updates. I've been using TaxCut for 10 years, and while it has always been a pain to download the updates and the state program, it has never been anywhere near this bad.

Hmm, I usually use H&R Block online. I don't think there *is* a download required to use their tax program. It's entirely Web-based.

But that doesn't do *you* any good.

So I should probably just keep quiet.
