*COLD OPEN*
Dave turns a corner and he enters an office. There's Jude. She's on the
phone. Dave: "Hi, Jude. How are you?" Jude: "Just a second. I'm on the
phone." Dave: "Are you on the phone?" Jude: "Yeah, I'm on the phone."
Dave: "OK." <<Dave stretches; pauses>> Dave: "Are you pretending to be
on the phone so you don't have to talk to me?" Jude: "Yes, I am." "I get
that a lot," Dave replies, sort-of chuckling.

I've been missing most of the recent cold opens, I think because my VCR is
haunted...the internal clock gradually drifts out of sync with the rest of the
world, until suddenly I go to check the previous night's show and it opens with
Dave already out on stage and starting the monologue....

I can't activate the feature that causes it to automatically sync with the clock
signal that some channels carry because for some reason it insists on making me
observe daylight saving time...(Arizona, folks; never had it, never will)....

It's hardly compensation that I get to watch a few extra minutes of the local
news after the show...at that hour it's all pre-recorded anyway....r
