Boston Bill inquired, on the subject of computers:
Any suggestions on what to avoid? Saw some good deals but dont want
to
get stuck with junk.

I'm a sixteen-year Macuser who thinks you should give them a look.

Except for our graphic designer, everyone else in my department
rides
PCs, and I don't have a bit of trouble working in their world. My
department provides a PC computer in my office, which I have never
once turned on.

but, no mac user ever includes the part about not buying every latest
new
OS, and having their system become o-b-s-o-l-e-t-e.

I'm among the last Mac users on the planet to have moved up to OS X.
And Leopard doesn't render Tiger obsolete. Perhaps in a few years, but
now, not quite yet.

Leopard does, however, render some four year old hardware obsolete. To a
point, I'm okay with that, because I bought my Powerbook to do video
editing, and it still does that, but it will prevent me from buying a Mac
as
a general use computer. It's not even like still running XP on a PC
either.
Because I'm two generations back in OS (even though it is still an OS X),
I
can't get the latest Safari or Java, making it useless for net surfing,
and
I can't get the latest iTunes, which *would* tick me off if I had been
planning on using the iPod I just bought with the Mac, since the Pod
won't
work with the older Tunes.

You can still upgrade to Tiger, can't you? That'll enable all current
access to Safari, etc.

I haven't kept up, but I think I have the one before that (Panther, I think
they call it?), and there haven't been any updates since the release of
Tiger...
Perhaps later I'll go boot it up and get the actual OS number, but, no,
ain't no more updates for it...
