How do you screw up a ramp?


Here's the latest update....

The first jump the guy did was over 5 taxi's. When he hit the landing
ramp he barely cleared the backend. The end of the ramp bowed severely
and the ATV suffered a bent rear suspension. You could see the wheel
wobbling noticeably as he came off the ramp. To tell you the truth I
don't know how the guy kept the thing from bouncing off the ramp. I
figured the day was done, but the guy had a backup vehicle. I wandered
over to Rupert's as he got the second one ready, got a cream soda and
watched the next attempt. This time he cleared the taxis and ramp
perfectly. He revved back and did it a second time for good measure.

When I got there this afternoon they had just the five taxis with three
more on 53rd in front of Rupert's. Before the attempts (and these were
rehearsals not actual filming) they drove them off. I was down there
about an hour and never saw them come back, so I have no idea if he
tried the eight. He easily cleared the five with the second ATV, but the
run up to the ramp is v-e-r-y short. Not sure he could get up enough
speed to clear the final three.

The most fun was watching Bill and another security guy blithely close
down 53rd street in the midst of the lunch rush. The bewildered looks on
the faces of drivers trying to come down 53rd was pretty funny. Oh, and
I saw Bill talk into his sleeve. No kidding. I nearly doubled over
laughing.

MikeMack ignored me as usual. Rupert let me adorn the Polar Springs
cooler yet again. We'll see how long they last.

We'll see what makes the show. Oh, some cool cameras were set up. One on
the fire escape of the building, one on the taxis shooting to the
underside of the ATV and several on the street. Should be way cool for
broadcast.
