We were in Philly last year and saw all the usual crap: Liberty Bell,
Constitution Hall, etc... but were most fascinated by the Mutter
Museum, a collection of medical oddities. There were huge tumors
preserved in jars, freakishly disfigured body parts, dwarf and giant
skeletons, mummies, a plaster cast of siamese twins Chang and Eng,
preserved fetuses at various stages of development, a 40 lb impacted
colon...
That place was freakin' AWESOME!
So was it's long standing curator/director Gretchen Worden. One of my
favorite LN guests, she always brought on the coolest things and took
great pleasure in creeping Dave out. She passed away a few years ago
from Hodgkin's Disease. Here's a lovely article on her from the Times.
