*TUES. 4/10 BIG SHOW SYNOPSIS: FINAL VERSION*
Hey, how's it goin'? This is a live-blogged version of the 'Big Show Synopsis.'
Am I the only person who feels that we are, truly, now living in some sort of Bizarro World? Earlier today, I was driving down the highway in my minivan that's not really a minivan. While listening to the cesspool that is AM news-talk radio, I happened to catch the top-of-the-hour news brief from ABC Radio News. Their top story: the paternity of Anna Nicole Smith's baby. The second story: radio host Don Imus' idiocy. On CNN tonight, Anderson Cooper hosted legal expert Jeffrey Toobin to discuss the 'legal ramifications' of the ongoing Anna Nicole saga.
I'm not sure how many people died in Iraq today, but I *do* know that Larry Birkhead is the father of Anna Nicole's baby. Several words come to mind, including: sad & pathetic.
Eh, I'll be back after the first commercial break.
OK, we've had several commercial breaks. I'm still researching the food item that Dave mentioned in his opening story.
I'll be back with more.
*DESK CHAT HIGHLIGHTS*
Dave says he's not sure he understands people. For instance, he was in a deli-cafeteria over the weekend when he noticed a woman. She was in line ahead of him, and he could tell that she was ... concerned. She was acting quite tepid. When it came time for the woman to make a selection, Dave heard her say, in a shallow voice, "Do you have any peschito [sic]?" Dave says there was a long pause. She then asked, "Do you have any peschito [sic] sandwiches?"
*MORE STUFF*
- Announcement: Canadian UFO Sightings (Of 736 purported sightings of UFOs in the Canadian skies, "we can tell you, without question: none of them were us. <<fleet of JetBlue planes>> JetBlue: still on the tarmac.")
- Clip: Don Imus Controversy (Voiceover: "We here at Rutgers University are issuing a call for Don Imus to be removed from the airwaves" for his recent comments. Rutgers is also issuing a call for David Letterman to be removed from the airwaves, "just because we're tired of [stuff like] this." <<shot of Dave jumping up & down on his chair, making weird noises>>)
- 'Great Moments in Presidential Speeches'
*EVEN MORE STUFF*
It's time for the '*Late Show* Mystery Prize Giveaway.' Alan Kalter -- TV's Inspector Cooley -- announces that tonight's mystery prize is an Apple 80-gigabyte Video iPod. It holds 20,000 songs and lots of movies. Retail value: $349. Biff is outside, in front of the Theater. How's Biff? Fine. How's the weather out there? It's a little chilly, but it's sunny. Biff says he loves the spring in New York City. He loves the summer too. He also loves winter & fall in New York City. He picks a contestant: Scott (I think), from Iowa. Scott comes in. He ... doesn't pick the correct box. He picked box # 3. The video iPod was under box # 1. Wait a second. The contestant just grabbed the prize and is running out of the Theater! Not to worry: 'Late Show' security goes after him and catches up with him in the lobby, at which point they promptly ... shoot him in the back. You hate to see that. Later, Dave informs us the contestant is OK.
We also had a 'TTL' and took a look at Biff at baseball spring training.
*DAVID DUCHOVNY*
He's a pretty good guest. The film is "The TV Set."
*RYAN HOWARD*
He plays for the Philadelphia Phillies. Last year, he hit 58 home runs and was the National League's MVP. That's all I got.
*ANDREW BIRD*
The album is "Armchair Apocrypha."
Was that a promo for the 'Tony Mendez Show?' in the spot formerly known as 'Act V?'
I'll be back in a few minutes with some miscellaneous meandering.
*MISCELLANEOUS MEANDERING*
Setting a timetable for withdrawal of US forces from Iraq? At a press briefing earlier today (Tuesday), White House deputy spokeswoman Dana Perino said, "[President Bush] has said that an arbitrary timetable in which we send a save-the-date card to the Iraqis is unacceptable to him." She added, "I stole that from Don [sic] Stewart."
Is that supposed to be hilarious and/or endearing? Maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but I find it kind of pathetic.
That's all I got.
Brady
