Bill Clinton distracted himself from turning 60 over the weekend by
spending the day on Martha's Vineyard, with friends such as Mary
Steenburgen and Ted Danson. A Lowdown spy on the island reports that
the actress, a longtime friend of the former President, bought 15
pairs of antique salt and pepper shakers at Tuckernuck Antiques in Oak
Bluffs, saying they were for Clinton's birthday party. The Clintons
and daughter Chelsea "had plenty of salt and pepper with their
birthday dinner," claimed spokesman Jay Carson. On Saturday - his
actual 60th - another spy spotted Bill, without Hillary, shmoozing at
the local agricultural fair in West Tisbury. "He was very casual, very
comfortable and smiling. He was feeding the animals. It looked like
this was a man having a good time and enjoying himself." Also spotted
at the fair: CBS funnyman David Letterman with his 2½-year-old son,
Harry.
