Name a question I've evaded, and I'll be happy to respond.
Otherwise your accusation is, yet again, groundless.
My 'advantage' in all this is that I don't have a world view that I
must cling to at all costs, and despite the actual state of reality.
So I'm open to anything, whereas most of you must twist and contort
every issue so that it says something negative about one Howard
Stern.
Me? I just like to listen to the show. I think it's funny as hell.
I think it's better than it's ever been. That's just my opinion.
He has created this mini-Universe which, on paper, seems absurd (a
wrap-up show and a news show about another show? Come one!). Yet I
find myself interested. Even in the silliest things, like what word
Sal will misuse next. It sounds so stupid, and yet when he does it,
it's so goddamn funny how they tease him.
Why was it funny yesterday when Howard was getting on Ronnie's case
about not getting a colonoscopy? I have no idea, but I was laughing.
Why were the clips of the fa fa foey song parodies so funny? I'm not
sure. Part of it is probably the contrast of how stupid the song is
and how great the production values are. Others are the opposite-
funny lyrics very poorly performed (see "Jackie is a drunk" from way
back).
Why was it funny when alanis morrisette started talking in odd
metaphor that no one understood, and Howard said "I think she's coming
on to me!"? I have no idea, but god damn it, it was. How do I *know*
it was funny? Because I was laughing. I think I've even heard that
line before, somewhere. But who cares? OK, maybe if I consistent
recognized his comments from other places I'd start to get turned
off.
Anyway, how do I *know* the show is funny? Because when I listen to
it, I laugh. Simple as that. So do nearly all of my friends. So do
a lot of people, obviously. As many as if it was on free radio? Of
course not. As many as he would have liked? Of course not. There
are many ways to get music these days, so there isn't the "need" to
get sat radio the way there was a "need" to get cable TV. For me, it
makes no difference if everyone in the country is listening, or if
it's just me and my friends.
If we didn't like the show, we wouldn't listen. It's not like it's
educational or anything.
Some people here not only think that the show is unfunny (which is
fine- it's just an opinion), but also cannot believe that anyone would
and that, if you do like the show, it's only for some other reason.
Some even seem to think it's because you're a victim of some mass
delusion (see the clearly schizophrenic Vicki).
